Carmel Ranch

This Carmel Ranch home was masterfully transformed in collaboration with local architect, Erik Dyar. For Barry Johnson Design, this marks our third project with our valued Bay Area clients. The home's charcoal exterior, paired with a bright and warm interior, creates a harmonious blend of vibrancy and tranquility. Our design approach emphasized connecting the interior spaces with the surrounding landscape, catering to our clients' love for the oaks and the garden.

Peninsula Contemporary

This fresh contemporary home was designed for a couple seeking a light, clean-lined aesthetic. As recent empty nesters, the clients reunited the same design and construction team that completed their first project a decade ago. The home features a seamless indoor-outdoor connection, with white terrazzo floors that efficiently heat and cool the space. Silver travertine seamlessly links the exterior with the interior, enhancing the home's cohesive flow. Collaborating with an art advisor, we curated and commissioned art pieces that follow a thoughtful 'color story' theme, adding a personalized touch to the space.

Stanford Hills

This Menlo Park kitchen remodel beautifully preserves a mid-century vibe while optimizing the space for a pair of passionate cooks, thanks to the architectural expertise of Judith Mattingly. Barry Johnson Design first collaborated on this home in the 1980s with the original owners and was later brought back to work with the new family. Our goal was to maintain the mid-century charm while tailoring the kitchen to suit the owners' love for cooking. The result is a space they truly enjoy using every day.

Los Altos Kitchen Remodel

The kitchen was the final space we renovated in this family home, designed with dogs in mind. We created a light and bright atmosphere, with durable, easy-to-maintain flooring and finishes. A walnut ceiling was added to bring warmth to the room. Collaborating with the meticulous Seidman Woodworks, we designed sleek doors and drawers featuring integral modern handles. To complete the space, the client commissioned a custom art piece by Madison Bloch for the entry wall.

SF City Apartment

This small apartment, nestled in the Millennium Towers near the San Francisco waterfront and financial district, serves as a perfect urban retreat for a 'wine country' couple. They desired a fresh, colorful, and contemporary ambiance, which we achieved by warming up the white walls, installing sophisticated lighting, and adding texture with wallcoverings. Bright accents and strategically placed mirrors create a light, joyful atmosphere. With limited closet and storage space, we maximized the bedroom by utilizing 11 feet of vertical space, ensuring the apartment is both functional and vibrant.

Peninsula Art Studio

This art studio, situated below the client's main house in Woodside, CA, was designed as a serene space for painting, displaying artwork, and entertaining guests. The client envisioned a clean, modern space dominated by shades of gray, which architect Judith Mattingly executed beautifully. The studio features a seamless flow down the hillside, with windows that open to breathtaking mountain vistas, creating an inspiring environment for creativity.

Menlo Park Family Home

This Menlo Park home had great bones but needed some reimagining to suit both empty nesters and their visiting married children. The clients, planning to retire in the house, wanted to create a space that would also accommodate their children and grandchildren. We opened up the kitchen, seamlessly connecting it to the pool and backyard, enhancing the indoor-outdoor living experience. The kitchen features Moroccan tiles that add a contemporary touch, while Jenna Bayer's landscaping further complements the design.
